As a new Christian, I had no idea who Jesus was. I mean I knew of him. That He was God made human, who died for our sins and that He rose on the 3rd day. But other than that, I was pretty clueless. I was lost and I did not know what the next step was. I was told to "pray". But how do you pray? How long? Do I kneel? What do I say? And the truth is, there is no wrong way to pray. God loves us so much and wants a relationship with us so badly. That's all He ever wanted. So for me, I prayed to God like he was my friend. It felt weird at first as I did not know Him yet. I told Him how sorry I was for my sins. Asked Him for His forgiveness and I told Him how bad I desperately needed Him in my life.
Prayers doesn't have to be fancy with big words. It comes from the heart. Prayers also does not change who God is but it changes who we are. In a good way. So my advice to you is to pray about everything! If you are feeling sad, pray about it. If you are feeling weak, pray about it. If you have fear, pray about it. Ask God to strengthen you. Ask God for more Faith. Whatever you do, do not give up on praying. I was dealing with fear about the future. Almost to the point I felt depress and anxious. And every day I would ask God to take it away from me. He did but it never lasted because I was still so new to everything. So along with asking God to take away my fear, I would also ask Him to give me strength. To help me grow my Faith and to clear my mind. Some days I felt like it wasn't working but I kept on praying and I am happy to tell you that I have not experience any fear in weeks!! Praise our heavenly Father!
Prayers also gives us a chance to Thank our God and to give Him praise for what He has done for us. Depending how new you are to this all, you might not realize it yet that God is our provider for everything. Job, money, our home, food, children, spouse, friends ect. Thank Him for the roof over your head and the food on your table. And if everything is going great in your life, Praise Him for it. But also, praise Him when everything is not so great because no matter how hard life gets, God promises He will be with us through it all. God will never abandon you but He will be with you every step of the way. We serve a good God and He deserves all the praise in the world.
So don't give up! Keep praying, praising Him and giving Him thanks for everything you have.The more you do it, the better it will get. Talk to Him about everything like you would with your best friend.
